Spirituality in Traditional & Contemporary Culture
Octave is a companionable quest, a journey towards inaccessible places. It begins with the search for meaning through a more vivid engagement with life.
We are touched by the convergence and interaction of culture and spirituality throughout history to the present day.
An author, artist or musician is in search; to create, transmit ideas, affect atmosphere and mood, through a cultural medium. Does that search correspond at times to an inner search?
How are inner and outer experiences, whether personal or global, translated into form?
What relevance and empathy can we find in contemporary times with cultural artefacts from the past?

As Above, So Below: Poems of Heaven and Earth
"Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar"
OCTAVE’s next event on 8 February (1:30pm) is about Poetry. Would you like to join us in Central London? Can you suggest a poem that you would like to read or hear read - about the stars, the planets, the sun or the earth; about what is above us and how that relates to our lives here, now?
With the right atmosphere, something can come alive in the reading of Poetry:
"I read a poem partly to try to find something inside myself. This ‘sensing something’ is difficult. I can say that I ‘think’ about a poem, that I understand the words. But what is it, this 'thinking'? The words of a poem touch me inside. I am moved and a ripple of emotion comes. Sometimes, if I am sensitive, attentive enough, I can feel my body. Then my reading of a poem can lift the seemingly ordinary words to a higher meaning."
